Tourism Fiji unveiled its new celebrity ambassador in a lavish, tropical setting on the stunning roof top pool of Sydney’s newest InterContinental Hotel in Double Bay last night.
Seven Network presenter and face of Myer, Kris Smith, has been named Celebrity Ambassador for Tourism Fiji, after he fell in love with the destination and culture on Myer’s Spring Summer 2014/15 Fashion Campaign shoot earlier this year.
Tourism Fiji regional director Carlah Walton said Kris was the perfect choice to represent the island paradise in Australia, after witnessing the genuine way Kris interacted with the locals and experienced the destination.
“When we went to Fiji for the Myer shoot, I saw what a great time Kris had and how he interacted with the local people in the village who had a real affinity with him too, which is very important to us,” Ms. Walton said.
With 300,000 Australians currently choosing Fiji as their holiday destination each year, those numbers are expected to grow, especially now Kris on board as the face of Tourism Fiji for the Australian market.
“Our message for the next 12 months is that there is heaps to do in Fiji and the culture and people are very important to us – the more tourists we get over there, the more employment there is and honestly, that is at the forefront of our mind, every tourist that gets sent over, means another job.”
Kris said Fiji lived up to its reputation as the holiday destination where happiness finds you and is excited to be the destination’s Celebrity Ambassador in Australia.
“I was very fortunate that Myer chose Fiji as the destination to shoot its Spring Summer campaign and it didn’t take me long to fall in love with the place,” Kris said.
“The more islands we visited, the friendlier the people got, the more you got an insight into the culture and it really did become absolute heaven on earth very quickly.”
