Sovereign Hill’s Winter Wonderlights Event up for two awards
Sovereign Hill’s highly successful Christmas in July Winter Wonderlights event is continuing to bask in the glow of critical claim, with the outdoor museum announced as a finalist in two categories for the upcoming Australian Event Awards.
Winter Wonderlights is nominated as a National Finalist in the Viking Rentals Best Regional Event category and as a State Finalist in the Visit Sunshine Coast Best Tourism Event category.
Entries are judged on all aspects of event management including best practice, innovation, marketing, stakeholder engagement and management, sustainability and event legacy.
The event wowed its 95,000 visitors in 2018 with 46 hours’ worth of dazzling light projections, 250,000 individual fairy lights, 115 faux snow falls and a 9-metre high Christmas tree adorned with 144 gigantic Christmas baubles and 46 huge bows.
Sovereign Hill CEO Terry Lloyd said the nominations are an acknowledgement that Winter Wonderlights has not only been a local success, but also demonstrates the event is one of the best tourism events in the country.
“We are very proud to see Winter Wonderlights acknowledged as a state and national finalist. Since we introduced the Christmas in July Winter Wonderlights event in 2011, it has transformed a quiet Winter period into our most successful event on the calendar.”
“Winter Wonderlights is attracting people from not only Ballarat but throughout the whole of Victoria and interstate, illustrating this is an event of national calibre and a highlight of the winter season,” he said.
The award winners will be announced at the Australian Event Awards Ceremony on November 21, 2018 on the Sunshine Coast.
