Tourism Cares and 70 delegates to U.S. Travel’s IPW—the travel industry’s premier international marketplace— will enrich lives of children and families during the volunteer program Tourism Cares for Denver on Saturday. Volunteers will build and donate bikes and help beautify the Downtown Children’s Playground for the summer season by planting, mulching and general maintenance.

“The city of Denver is opening its doors to more than 1,000 travel organizations, who will generate $4.7 billion in Visit USA travel,” said IPW general manager Malcolm Smith. “We’re thrilled to help people in our host community and provide a hands-on volunteer experience for our conference attendees.”

Tourism Cares—the philanthropic community of the travel industry—is partnering with Wish for Wheels to help build the bikes. Wish for Wheels is a nationwide nonprofit based in Denver, that gives bikes and helmets to low income families. Volunteers will deliver the bikes to children at the Pena Clinic, which provides medical care to underserved families in Denver.

“For these families, it is much more than receiving a bike and helmet. It’s about seeing people come together to support and help one another,” said Peri Mueller, operations administrator for Wish for Wheels, “Bikes have a unique ability to unite people.”

Tourism Cares enlisted volunteers from 44 companies and five countries for the second program in conjunction with IPW. “We’re excited to be working with U.S. Travel again to show the world how we give better together,” said John Yonce, director of advancement at Tourism Cares, “Everyday, the travel industry supports destinations economically, and socially through programs like this.”

Tourism Cares for Denver kicks off five days of events and business appointments for more than 1,000 U.S. sellers of travel services and more than 1,300 international and domestic buyers from more than 70 countries. The program is made possible by The U.S. Travel Association (which owns and operates IPW), and is sponsored by Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Colorado Tourism Office, Entertainment Cruises, and Halo Branded Solutions.
