A Games Shapers Farewell
After the closing of the 21st Commonwealth Games 2018, the last official days for most of the Games Shapers was on the 18 April 2018. It was a day of mixed emotions that was felt by all the volunteers in the team I had the pleasure of being with. I myself have come away from this once in a lifetime journey not only with an amazing and memorable experience but also with some new found friendships Australia is famous for. I’d like to thank each and everyone in our VCC Team and for sharing an amazing experience with me. We had shared lots (and lots!) of laughs, shared stories of life our life’s journey, great conversations, food snacking and good nature banter always accompanied with lots more of laughter!
On Saturday, 21 May 2108, all Games Shapers was honored at the ‘We Shaped the Dream’ celebration for the outstanding role we played in helping to deliver a successful #GC2018. To celebrate this amazing achievement, we were joined and entertained by some fantastic local and international artists and we had the chance for photo opportunities with athletes and a very special GC2018 VIP, Borobi! The celebration was a great way to close the most largest and most successful sporting event ever held on the Gold Coast and the last time for us to wear our Games Shapers uniform in an official capacity.
Our 11 days of world-class sport was over, but the memories and friendships made won’t soon be forgotten. We were the Jimbelung Games, the Friendly Games! For many of us, it has been a long journey. I was honored and privileged to have been 1 of 15,000 volunteers from 47,000 applications and selected as a Games Shapers in my home city of the Gold Coast and for shaping the dream into a vibrant reality!
