Emirates’ president has said that the Dubai airline will not enter any commercial alliances, deeming them harmful to competitiveness.
Tim Clark said that the carrier preferred to operate by itself, as alliances could detract from the quality of its services, Airwise reported.
Emirates is currently not part of any global airline alliances such as oneworld or Star Alliance.
Operating alone, Emirates has managed to rapidly expand – along with fellow Gulf majors Etihad of Abu Dhabi and Qatar Airways – in a climate of dispute over access to flight routes and competition.
The carrier’s success has left older airlines nervous and both sides quarrelling over alleged protectionism.
Many carriers fear Gulf-based superjumbos will drain their own hubs, the report said.
